While reading this article some people may think, that I’m a sclerotic or just don’t know what to write about… Oh, no! I just wanna tell one more story from my friend Masha (this time from Masha). Do you remember my post about “Where to rent a car in Europe?”, it was about a European trip of my friend. Now, I would like to share with you information about Masha’s (my friend in Europe trip to Spain, Italy, Switzerland and France).

I don’t know whether it is just a fortuity or she finally, deferred to my opinion, but while her trip, she commanded the services of car hire company, that I advised her to consult. She made online booking and “hurray” – her trip to all these countries went as clean as a whistle.

So, I mentioned only the most brilliant points of her tour. So, Spain. This country if full of various temptations and attractions: fiestas, tomato fights, Spanish Festivals, numerous social events, romantic beach resorts, a great variety of museums, galleries and art centers. About Sevastopol

Khersonesus Tauric in Sevastopol

Sevastopol is a city located on the south of Ukraine, it is washed by the Black Sea and belongs to the Autonomic Republic Crimea. This city considered to be a Russian one, because after the USSR dissolution, Sevastopol is still a Russian military port. It is a very romantic city, I saw hundreds of sailors there.

As to a brief history, Sevastopol was founded in 1783 and used to be a base for the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Republic. But in the course of time, it became much bigger and almost changed his orientation, now it can be called, a cultural, trading and recreational center of Ukraine. Sevastopol can be proud of his sightseeing, namely architectural and historical. So, the following places attract attention of tourists and draw millions of them:

  1. Sevastopol Defence in 1854-1855 Monument to Sunk Ships in Sevastopol, UkraineIt is a very interesting sightseeing. First of all, it is a building, that contains the second element – panorama, and the third element – is Panorama’s theme (the 349-day valorous defence of Sevastopol). So, the building was opened on the 14th of May in 1905. Author of the Panorama is F.A. Rubo (a famous battle-painting professor). Panorama itself is a marvelous canvas (1610 square meters) and the canvas is continued with a detailed plan (nearly 900 square meters). But it was ruined and according to the expert impossible to renovate, so 30 artists were drawing it for 3 years. I saw it with my own eyes, it is amazing and stunning, when I saw it for the first time, I was speechless, the illumination is so unbelievable that it seems to I am on the battle-field. The photos are not beautiful at all, because they can’t transfuse the emotions and feeling it provokes in your soul.

Knife Castle in Ukraine – Lastochkino Gnezdo

Swallow Nest Castle Crimea, Ukraine

Lastochkino Gnezdo can be treated as a symbol of the Autonomic Republic Crimea, Ukraine. It is an emblem of it the same like the Eiffel Tower is emblem of Paris. A lot of people suppose it to be a medieval castle. Its beauty is amazing and location right on the edge of the rock, makes it look fearless and inaccessible. Everyday it attracts millions of tourists.

History of the Castle. Lastochkino Gnezdo castle in Ukraine

The 1st stage of its history started many many years ago in 1877 and it is connected with a general, wounded in the Russian-Turkish war. There is a very beautiful legend, considering this event. The old general came to the cape Aj-Todor and saw a tree. It was growing right from the rock and was an embodiment of the power, courage and firmness. The general developed a passion for this tree and decided to build a wooden house there. The house was later called “Generalif”. But the following fate of the castle was much more interesting than its beginning. In 1911 it was bought by a saleswoman Rahmanova and titled Lastochkino Gnezdo. Later she sold it to baron Steingell. The new owner ordered to ruin the wooden house and built a new one – a stone castle. The project was designed by a Russian architect A. Sherwood. The castle was built in 1912 and in 1912 a tradesman Shalaputin opened a restaurant there.

In the USSR period Lastochkino Gnezdo was a building of the Russian sanatorium “Pearl” (the library was situated there ). In 1927 there was an earthquake and the building was damaged, part of the rock has fallen away, the castle was closed and opened again only after a reconstruction in 1968.

To tell the truth, I was amazed with the beauty of this castle. We got there by water and for 45 minutes I was waiting for its image to appear on the horizon, it appeared suddenly and out of nothing. It provokes mixed feelings, feeling of admiration and fear. Looking at it seems, that the building will fall for sure. Because after the reconstruction, the part of the fallen rock wasn’t renewed. Thus, it looks like a small castle on the edge of the deep blue and only endless see is around. On the right it is possible to see a rock Parus (Sale).

By the way, there are a lot of opponents of this architectural masterpiece, they say, that the popularity of the castle is explained because of its natural location and apart of the rock it stands on and the Black Sea around it. Without this accompaniment it will look like a bust and lose its magnificence.
