Ireland has a lot of hidden treasures and secrets and the more you discover this country the more it offers. I am ready to bet, most of us treat Ireland as a city of wild beauty and lush forests, but Ireland is much more versatile and interesting. Have you ever heard of Glendalough? Then you’ve missed a lot.
Glendalough is from Irish “Valley of the Two Lakes” and it is a fascinating monastic settlement that offers spectacular sceneries and mind-blowing views. The nature is especially picturesque and even pristine here. It will take you only an hour to get here from Dublin but the changes in landscapes will drive you crazy.
The monastery of Glendalough was founded by St. Kevin, by a monk who died about 618 AD. And now everybody concerned can enjoy here the extensive ruins which include several churches, a round tower, and various sites.
All kinds of activities are welcomed here: walking, mountain hiking, landscapes’ viewing and etc.
There is a hotel, parking zone, and restaurant onsite so it will be a real pleasure to stay here for a couple of days and even weeks. The largest building at Glendalough is the cathedral. The most visible and charming monument at Glendalough is the pretty round tower, that is about 30 meters high. In medieval Ireland this tower had six wooden floors, and ladders connecting them.
Piece and tranquillity rule here!

That place looks beautiful. I will be in Ireland in the fall and will be sure to check this place out. I can’t wait.
