Almost everybody loves mysteries, ancient places, unknown things… The Kish qanat belongs to one of such mysteries. This underground city is more than 2,500 years old. It is situated 16 meters below the surface and has a very vast area of more than 10,000 sq m.

If to be precise, Qanat is not exactly a city, it is an ancient system that was created in arid regions. It’s aim was to deliver groundwater from the cliff. It was possible thanks to the complicated chain of numerous tunnels. Some of them were not less than several kilometers long.

Believe it or not, but this system still works in some regions of Iran. The qanat has 274 wells, its walls are covered with a special mud called locally as ‘Maren’, people say it can cure arthritis.
