Most Dangerous Volcanoes in the World

There are many volcanoes in the world. Volcanoes are a natural way that our Earth and other planes use in order to cool off. All planets are warm in their mantles. Sometimes this heat inside melts rocks and these hot rocks – magma – combining with gasses break through the crust and namely in such a way happens an eruption. Lava flows out of a volcano top. It’s really dangerous but nevertheless, eruptions hold a lot of appeal to many tourists.  Some volcanoes erupt only once or twice but some erupt many times and seem never stop.

There is no strict and commonly approved classification of volcanoes, but I will try give a list of some most dangerous volcanoes as to their explosive history and closeness to populated locality.

  • Mt Vesuvius in Italy

I think you hardly find a person hasn’t heard about Mt Vesuvius. Mount Vesuvius belongs to one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. It’s eruption cycle is more than 20 years, the last eruption occurred in 1994. Millions of people live near it. Namely eruption of this volcano destroyed Pompei in 79 AD.

  • Popocatepetl in Mexico

It is the highest active volcano in the Northern Hemisphere. In 2001 its flows travelled 8 km from the volcano itself and caused glacial melting. In 1996 its eruption killed climbers.

  • Merapi in Indonesia

Merapi contains active lava, that adores producing pyroclastic flows (travell 6-10 km from the volcano and velocity of the flow is 110 km/hour). Eruptions happen once in 3-5 years. This volcano is active for already 10,000 years.

  • Unzen in Japan

Unzen is not a single volcano, it is a huge complex of 3 volcanoes. It is dangerous and has already taken lives of many people and destroyed 2,000 buildings.

  • Galeras in Colombia

Really dangerous one with a lot of eruptions. Took lives of tourists and scientists. Galeras is a volcano complex.

This volcanoes that are in this websites are really dangerous you have very good information, but if you could, could you put more volcanoes that are in South America please. I would like to know more about volcanoes so I can know more about our planet. Another thing I would like to tell doesnt have anything with what I am telling you is to take care of Earth. If you know this other thing what is the biggest an earthquake can be???
Thankyou, Ill wait for your answer. Bye!

the biggest an earthquake can be is 8 on the Richter Scale thats rlli huge! would definitely kill

This is wrong. The largest earthquake measured was the great Chilean earthquake in 1960 at 9.5. The scale goes up to 9.9. There is a measurement of 10+ Epic – Never Recorded

the Richter scale does in fact go up to 10 but it is impossible for a 10 because it would be so powerful it would rip the earth apart which obviously hasn’t happened any time lately! There is also a second scale now that also measures earth quakes (i don’t know the name) that measures in a different way, which explains recent activity. what i mean by this is that although the recent earthquake in Chile was a 8.8 where as Haiti’s was somewhere in the high 7′s the damage was greater because on this second scale the Haiti earthquake was higher up than Chile.

A 10 would not rip the earth apart! The meteor that hit the earth and caused the extinction of the dinosaurs would have been greater than a 10 and the earth is still here.

I think that the most volcanoes are the most wonderful things ever but you will need to stay away fromthem if they are that dangerous because the lava might explode and you might get hit with the lava if you are that close the the volcano so but next time i mih=gth have the cheack out the most extreme dangeruos volcanoes because i am doing a science project on volcanoes and and fearious to hear about ll the volcaoes

can you stop a volcano from erupting?

This would be like trying to stop a freight train with a penny on the tracks.
The magnitude of molten rock moving at tremendous speeds, plus the temperatures, makes it humanly impossible.

    V.O.C.A.N.O.E.S. Stands for:

    V: volcanoes
    O: (I dunno?)
    C: carful
    A: Attention to volcanoes
N: never leave your watch on them.
    O: (I dunno?)
    E: Eruptions
    S: Sizzerling hot lava!

STAY AWAY FROM THEM, THEY CAN HURT…
OTHER WISE THEY CAN BE QUITE LOVELY LAND MARKS TO STAY IN.

Im astonished that you failed to mention the Yellowstone Caldera as one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. Although it hasnt yet errupted, when it does it will erupt with TREMENDOUS FORCE unseen in all of human history. To give an idea of the scale of such an eruption, its estimated that when the 40-mile-wide magma chamber some ~20,000 feet beneath Yellowstone park breaks the surface the ensuing eruption will be 1000 times as powerful in terms of explosive force and volume of ash released(more than 1,000 cubic kilometers!!)as Mt Saint Helens did in 1980! 2/3 of the US mainland will be covered in up to 3 feet of ash which will devastate the midwest and the Rock Mountain states.

    Hi Sir,
I wish to know how dangerous is the volcano, La Soufriere in St.Vincent, West Indies. Could it be classified as a dangerous volcano? What really is its present status – active or dormant? Thanking you and looking forward to your reply.
    Kindest regards,

well i read about one here is the wiki-answers answer to it It is believed that Toba supervolcano eruption circa 75 000 years ago caused eradication of 60% of human population.
Deccan traps event is believed to be associated with KT extinction period (about 65 million years ago).
We don’t know, or can’t tell, what else volcano events were more destructive and we lack a scale for comparison of such events.

Big and destructive contemporary explosions include: Mount Tambora in 1815 and Krakatoa in 1883.
Also, there were the volcanic eruptions triggered by Xenu, who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of his people to Earth in DC 8-like spacecraft, stacked them around volcanoes, and killed them using hydrogen bombs. The essences of these many people remained; they form around people in modern times, causing them spiritual harm. its the one i red

The Laki volcano in Iceland should be mentioned here. It killed about 10.000 people in Iceland (a quarter of the population) in 1783 and probably triple that amount elsewhere in Europe becouse of the famine it coused for many years afterwards.

What about the Hawaiian Volcano-Mt. Kilauea its suggested to be the most active Volcano on the Earth

It’s just called Kilauea, not Mt. Kilauea. Stromboli in Italy is probably the most active volcano in the world.
