I'm surpirised I have a reply ! ! !Thank you. Something made me look at this web site--providence. Since 2009 when I wrote the note, I've had health problems and had to cancel my trip to Holland/Friesland/ Giethoom. However, I still have all my research in my Mac laptop computer and healthy enough to try again. Goodness, wouldn't it be fun to match up our interests and go there !!! I'm living in New Berlin, WI outside Milwaukee. Just celebrated my 76th birthday thanks to Norwegian blood.
Check my web site for the other books ---non-fiction I've written about the Anabaptists.
Let's talk. I may have one contact in Friesland--retired teacher and historian of Holland history---Menno Simmons, etc.

Hello Richard,

I am very interested in your book on the Mennonites in the Netherlands. They are my ancestors and I would love more information. My mother and I were not born in Giethoorn but many of our ancestors were born there going back hundreds of years. I still have close cousins living there and would love to live there myself.

This village is 40% water way and 60% road way. Only the old part of the village is waterway. I guess the images of the roads aren’t as flattering.

Unbelievably beautiful, and I hate to ruin the magic by bringing up practicality, but how do emergency services function there? Ambulances, fire "trucks". I hope it's not somebody on a rowboat rowing really fast. =X

I was in Blijburg, nice beach-bar, where you can enjoy DJ’music. You will get calm atmosphere. This is best for summer seasons, having live music, night parties at whole summers.
